Update from state veterinarian on equine herpes

No known cases in Michigan.

A regional disease investigation into Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) received heightened interest this past week because high-value horses attended a national cutting horse competition in Utah and were exposed to the virus. If you suspect that your horse(s) are infected, Steve Halstead, state veterinarian with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, requests that you contact your local veterinarian immediately. Learn more about Dr. Halstead's recommendations in his memo to equine stakeholders
