Strengthened African policy research institute analysis and convening for evidence-based policies to address short- and medium-term impacts of the global crisis in food, fuel and fertilizer availability and prices

The Innovation Lab for Food Policy, Research, Capacity, and Influence is partnering with the African Network of African Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI) to support strengthened analysis and policy engagement. Through ANAPRI's network of African policy research institutes, the project will generate recommendations for evidence-based policies to address short- and medium-term impacts of the global crisis in food, fuel and fertilizer availability and prices that was exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This activity will build on existing institutional structures and alliances, address barriers to the implementation of policies to respond effectively to multiple sources of shocks, and provide technical support for operationalizing the approaches. Science-policy dialogue platforms and other relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions at regional level provide avenues for increased investment and wide scale implementation.

Objectives

1. To convene regional and continental action to ensure countries understand, and can consider, the impacts of national policies on intra-regional and continental production, trade and ultimately poverty and food security.
2. To generate timely country-level analyses and recommendations, in support of policymakers and other partners, for on-going risk assessment and policy adjustment.
3. To expand knowledge and achieve policy impact.
4. To promote “enhanced resilience at individual, household, national and regional levels (to climate and other sources of shocks) to achieve economic and environmental sustainability”, by focusing on multiple sources of shocks to prices and availability of food and fuel and their impacts on farmers and midstream actors.
