County Planning: Its Legal Authority and Coordinated Planning

Plans adopted by a county have a unique position and function in Michigan – used for coordination between townships, villages, cities and other government agencies. This is done with review of township, village and city plans and township zoning ordinances, review of capital improvement projects undertaken by several different government agencies. This bulletin presents a brief overview of the unique aspects of a county plan. This pamphlet reflects the changes as a result of the Michigan Planning Enabling Act and the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act.
