Global Knowledge Partnership Funds in Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources

International cooperation and collaboration are a hallmark of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) at Michigan State University. For more than 60 years, Michigan State University (MSU) has been a global leader and actively engaged in international agricultural research and development. Numerous collaborative linkages and partnerships have been established and implemented throughout the world to address the pressing challenges in the diverse areas of food, agriculture, and natural resources.

Through international collaborative research, education, outreach, and technology transfer programs in more than 60 countries, the CANR has been addressing pressing global challenges of feeding growing populations, reducing hunger, malnutrition and eradicating poverty in the wake of climate change and depleting natural resources.

To continue the rich legacy of international development, the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has established a new endowment - “Global Knowledge Partnership Fund in Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources.” This endowment fund aims to strengthen food systems and human and institutional capacities in agriculture and natural resources to ensure food and nutritional security while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.

The “Global Knowledge Partnership Fund” supports MSU students, international scholars, and faculty members to enhance their engagement in international agricultural and natural resources programs globally. The fund also supports international collaborative research, education, training and outreach programs, student and faculty exchanges, technology transfer programs and joint publications, as well as our global scholars’ program. The fund helps strengthen partnerships among various public and private institutions around the world to enhance global networks and knowledge. The fund is used to provide scholarships, fellowships, research support, and international travel grants, etc. to expand CANR collaborative programs and linkages.

WorldTAP Endowment

WorldTAPIn 2012, the WorldTAP (World Technology Access Program) Team launched the WorldTAP Endowment Fund to help sustain and expand the WorldTAP programs and networks across the globe.

WorldTAP builds global knowledge partnerships in food and agriculture and enhances MSU’s global network for collaborative research, education, and outreach programs. Over the past 20 years, WorldTAP has trained more than 2,500 scientists, policy makers, government officials, administrators, media personnel, NGOs representatives, and private sector personnel from more than 80 countries in diverse areas of agricultural research and development. This cohort of global WorldTAP trainees are now playing vital roles in improving policy, research, education, and outreach capacity of their home institutions and countries. Global challenges of hunger and poverty require continuing efforts and building the next generation of leaders to address these issues through education and training is a key requisite. Your contribution to WorldTAP Endowment fund will assist in building human capital and help more participants and institutions to benefit from Michigan State University’s global training and capacity building programs.

Kurien Endowment

Dr. Verghese KurienIn 2014, our team launched the “Verghese Kurien Endowment Fund” to continue the legacy of the late Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of Milk Revolution in India. Dr. Kurien was an alumnus of Michigan State University, graduating in 1948. He founded India`s National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and made exemplary contributions in making India the second largest milk producer in the world through the establishment of dairy cooperatives. To build the next generation of leaders in agriculture and dairy sector, Dr. Kurien established the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). For his exemplary contributions, Dr. Kurien was awarded the World Food Prize in 1989.  

Dr. Kurien`s work impacted lives of millions of small-holder farmers in India and inspired establishment of numerous dairy cooperatives across India and in many developing countries. To our knowledge, Dr. Kurien`s work has impacted and influenced the lives of more people in developing countries than any other alumnus in MSU history. Dr. Kurien passed away in September 2012. To continue his legacy and vision, in 2016, we launched Dr. Verghese Kurien Endowment Fund at MSU. In addition, MSU has started the Kurien Memorial Lecture Series.
