Competitive Funding

Competitive grant programs enable NIFA, via a rigorous peer review process, to select the highest quality proposals from a large pool of institutions and organizations. Each competitive program may have different eligibility rules.

Go to Competitive (AFRI and Non-AFRI) | National Institute of Food and Agriculture (usda.gov) for more information.

Competitive grants require project initiation, progress, and final report submission through NIFA’s Reporting Portal (REEport). Go to NIFA Reporting Portal (usda.gov). The Project Director will receive system-generated reminders directly from REEport for progress and final report submissions.

Research capacity funded projects such as Hatch, Hatch Multistate, Animal Health and Disease Research, McIntire-Stennis, Smith-Lever, and Renewable Resources Extension Act are not considered competitive grants.
