Beginning Farmer Curriculum

Educators and partners from across Michigan have come together to author the Beginning Farmer Curriculum, rooted in participatory action learning, to offer a solid foundation for new and existing training programs for beginning farmers.

About the Curriculum

The Beginning Farmer Curriculum integrates practical how-to’s on a total of ten farm management topics, including Land Access, Soil Health, Produce Safety, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Pollinators, Farm Financials, Marketing, Urban Agriculture & Policy, Peer-to-Peer Learning, & Engaging Diverse Farmers​.

Each of the ten curricula are divided into modules that can be used alone, or in conjunction with other modules. Each module includes a Facilitator Guide, which provides background information and preparation instructions for the facilitator, and Participant Handouts, which are designed to be printed and handed out to learners for each activity within the module.
