Learn from seasoned beekeepers in the West Michigan area!

The Holland Area Beekeepers Association will hold a Bee School on Saturday, February 10th, 2024. This event is sold out.

Dr. Zachary Huang, Associate Professor in the Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Entomology, will present on Hive Inspections & Record Keeping. Ana Heck, Apiculture Extension Educator, will present on Varroa Mites, Bee Diseases and Integrated Pest Management.

The Bee School includes 2 keynote addresses, and elective breakout sessions geared for beginner and intermediate beekeepers are offered throughout the day. The topics to choose from include:

  • Bee equipment & bees
  • Bee biology
  • Hive inspections
  • Varroa mites, pests, & diseases
  • Nucs & splits
  • Pollinator habitat
  • Bee behavior - communications and swarming
  • Business of beekeeping - making it sustainable with bee products

Also, throughout the day, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of seasoned beekeepers, visit vendor booths to shop for bee equipment, reserve bees for spring, and shop for beekeeping books and craft products of the hive.
