The following information provides a synopsis of some of our past events.

National Firewood Workshop

The National Firewood Workshop (NFW) held on June 20-21, 2018, at MSU Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center at Frankenmuth, MI. The event was organized in collaboration with North Carolina State University (NCSU), the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) and the USFS Wood Education Resource Center (WERC).

The NFW brought together about 100 stakeholders involved in the firewood industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities of producing and marketing firewood in North America.  It provided networking and marketing opportunities for producers, equipment manufacturers and policy makers.

The NFW also provided participants an educational opportunity to learn about firewood processing industry, the latest knowledge on processing, kiln drying and marketing of firewood.

The workshop hosted sessions on (1) the basics and challenges of producing and marketing firewood, (2) technical aspects of firewood production, (3) policy and regulatory challenges, and, (4) safe transportation of firewood, and kiln certifications
