A derecho blew across the region leaving damage in its wake. Relatively minor damage to fruit plantings. Some fruit, trees and limbs down in orchards and blueberry fields, and some broken trellis posts in grape vineyards.

Much needed rain finally arrived for most of east Michigan in the past week. Blueberry and early peach harvest continue across the region.

Early varieties are beginning veraison in southern vineyards and downy mildew is visible in unprotected fields. Egglaying by third generation grape berry moth is expected to start next week in southwest Michigan.

With another week of hot temperatures and not much precipitation, drought conditions returned. Blueberry harvest continues, early peach harvest begins and summer red and black raspberry harvest is ending.
