There is a major knowledge gap regarding these trends in the forest business sector and market challenges and developments in the United States. This special issue aims to advance knowledge on these topics in the following three distinct ways:
- By explaining impacts on forest sector supply chains from natural disasters and emerging non-timber related forest products.
- Challenges facing new and emerging non-traditional forest products.
- Continued mapping of socioeconomic impact

- Type, search, and select 'Society & Natural Resources' in 'Submit to' area. Check and select all other relevant information and click "Start".
- On the second page, select "Yes" to answer "Are you submitting your paper for a specific special issue or article collection?" which will bring a field to select a special issue. Select 'Forest based ecosystem services – valuation approaches'. Follow further instructions in the webpage to submit your manuscript.
The proposed special issue will address the following area of forest-based ecosystem service:
- Content scope: The research ideally should focus on valuation of forest-based ecosystem services. The ecosystem services may include but not limited to carbon sequestration, wildlife, water resources, energy resources.
- Methodological scope: The methodological approach can be any non-market valuation technique including stated and revealed preferences methods. We will also consider methodological innovation for non-market valuation methods. Comparisons with or inclusion of market-based valuation approaches is also acceptable, as long as non-market approaches are also included.
3. Special Issue in Forests: Forest-based Bioenergy and Bioeconomy

This Special Issue aims to present scientific findings on wood-based bioenergy systems and their contribution to the local, regional, and national bioeconomy. We encourage studies from the fields of social economics, management, techno-economics, and policy analysis, including case studies, novel approaches, and regional to global models, in order to promote knowledge and strategies in the sustainable use of forest biomass for renewable energy and bioeconomy.
