Destination Forest Dunes features three 18-hole courses ranked in Gold Digests 100 Greatest Public courses, Forest Dunes a traditional parkland style designed by major championship winner Tom Weiskopf, opened for play in 2002. The Loop opened for play in 2017, designed by Tom Doak to be a reversible course, changes routing daily depending on the date. The Red routing for even dates, and the Black routing for odd dates. We also feature a 10-hole Par 3 course designed by Keith Rhebb and Riley Johns that opened in 2021. A new private golf course to be designed and constructed by Gil Hanse is in the planning stages.

Why have your Internship at Forest Dunes?

Interns will have the unique opportunity to experience two drastically different maintenance programs on the same property. The Loop and Bootlegger being a firm and fast fescue golf course with a minimalist mindset, and the original Forest Dunes being a traditional Creeping Bentgrass with Kentucky Bluegrass rough parkland style course. Interns will also have the opportunity to work on two different irrigation systems, a traditional Toro LTC satellite system and a Toro Two Wire system. There is also a residential aspect which affords landscape, irrigation, and maintenance as well.

Duties:

Turfgrass Interns will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents in all aspects of turfgrass/property management. Specifics of education will be tailored to each intern’s skill set and will include but not be limited to the following.

o Daily maintenance of golf courses

o Water management – Lynx software, hand watering, TDR moisture meter

o Chem/Fert application and calibration.

o Equipment Operation, Setup, and Repair.

o Irrigation repair, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting.

o Construction/Project/Crew/Leadership opportunities.
