EDEN offers new weather and drought-related resources online

Get an up-to-date overview of current weather, forecasts, radar, drought status and much more for your area of the state by visiting EDEN’s Next 48 Weather Dashboard.

The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) recently released a new online tool that provides viewers with a variety of weather maps and other disaster status maps for the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Clicking on a particular state will take the user to a series of maps customized for that state. Information obtained from the National Weather Service, Storm Prediction Center, Geological Survey, Center for Disease Control and several other sources is compiled and organized so that it can be depicted in this map format. Visit EDEN’s Next-48 Weather Dashboard to see up-to-date weather information for your area.

With more than half the nation currently experiencing some degree of drought, EDEN has also added many new resources to their drought page. Viewers can learn about types of drought, how to measure drought, the impacts of drought, and access a variety of University Extension drought resources and hay/feed hotlines.

 EDEN’s drought page, provides a link to the U.S. Drought Monitor website where users can view a map of the entire U.S. or can click to obtain more in-depth drought conditions for their state. These maps are updated weekly with the newest information published at 8:30 a.m. on Thursdays. 

As the epic drought conditions continue across much of the U.S., new links are being added for hay/feed hotlines available to growers in a variety of states.  Links to a number of University Extension websites focusing on drought-related issues appears on this page as well. Viewers are advised to check back often as additional resources are appearing daily.

As Michigan becomes more and more affected by this current drought, Michigan State University Extension agricultural staff have developed their own drought resource page on the Michigan State University Extension (MSU) news website.  This page organizes many resources, both internal and external to MSU, and will continue to grow as the situation warrants.
