Former Fish and Wildlife head to speak at MSU

Careers and diversity in natural resources will be the topics of two seminars presented by the former assistant director and regional director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in March.

Mamie Parker, now president of MA Parker and Associates, an environmental management and coaching company, has more than 28 years of experience as a fish and wildlife biologist. She was the first African American to serve as assistant director and regional director in the Fish and Wildlife Service, and after retiring she launched a successful career in coaching and motivational speaking.

A pioneer in conservation, Parker will present two seminars on campus in March:

  • "The Game Changer: Facing Fears and Negotiating a Career in Natural Resources" on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the Kellogg Center Cornish Room
  • "Five Shades of Gray: Dreaming of More Diversity in Natural Resource Professions" on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:30 am. in the James Madison College Library in Case Hall

Parker’s seminars are sponsored by the MSU Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, James Madison College, and the Honors College. The seminars are free and open to the public.
