South Campus Compost Facility

Things are turning again at the South Campus Compost Facility!

The South Campus Compost Facility (SCCF) is now under the operational management of the South Campus Anaerobic Digester (SCAD) team and has begun producing high quality compost. The SCCF is located just to the south of the Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center. The facility is comprised of a stacking shed for the storage of raw manures and feedstocks, a 3-bay in-vessel composting area, lean-to storage area for curing compost, and an outdoor storage pad for compost ready for sale. SCCF handles a wide variety of manures and feedstocks from the South Campus Animal Farms including the solids out of the anaerobic digester, beef cattle manure, waste feed, horse shavings, and bedding from the livestock pavilion. SCCF operators blend this material into windrows based upon an ideal carbon to nitrogen ratio and then treat the material using accepted best practices. Compost is maintained at a minimum of 131 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 days and turned 5 times. SCCF currently has a variety of materials for sale typically sold in 50 yard minimums.
