Nutrition and Physical Activity Instructional Design Educator
Lenawee County Extension Office

Amy Shovels is a Michigan State University Extension Nutrition and Physical Activity Instructional Design Educator. She began with Michigan State University as a student, earning her bachelor's degree in Audiology & Speech Pathology, then her master’s degree in Audiology. She worked as a clinical audiologist for 10 years at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center before electing to serve her home and community through civic activities, including the Master Gardener program offered by MSU's Hidden Lake Gardens and Lenawee County MSU Extension. As an advocate for healthy eating and exercise, Amy became a Certified Wellness Program Coordinator and worked as Operations Director for a Michigan-based business specializing in nutrition-related programs and courses for individuals, worksites, and community groups. In this position, she adapted live-group nutrition education curricula into online courses for self-paced and group cohort learners. Her role with MSU Extension is to provide local and statewide educational programming expertise in online instructional design, and proven practices for online learning and teaching for delivery of nutrition and physical activity education to limited resourced adults, youth, and families.
