Potato breeding and genetics: polyploid breeding and genetics, breeding for disease and insect resistance and potato quality, SNP markers, application of genetic engineering and gene editing to potato breeding, trait mapping and diploid potato breeding.

Dr. Dave Douches, a professor in Michigan State University’s Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, has led the MSU potato breeding and genetics program for over 30 years. The program has produced over 30 new potato varieties and has been recognized as a global leader in potato research.
