Ghaida Batarseh Havern
Ghaida Batarseh Havern is an Extension Educator for Food Safety with Michigan State University Extension's Health and Nutrition Institute. Her coverage area includes District 11 (Detroit/Metro Detroit) along with statewide responsibilities. Ghaida teaches a variety of food safety programs such as ServSafe Manager or Food Handler Courses, Cooking for Crowds, Food Preservation, Safe Food = Healthy Kids, Pantry Food Safety, and Cottage Food Law.
Ghaida is a member of the Refugee Health Task Force at Michigan State University Extension. She collaborates with the nutrition team to offer bundled programs in both nutrition and food safety to reach immigrant and refugee populations. She is currently working on a new Safe Food = Healthy Babies project that aims to deliver food safety education to high-risk populations for foodborne illnesses such as expectant parents and parents of infants or young children.
Ghaida received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Nutrition Concentration from Oakland University and a Master of Science in Nutrition and Food Science from Wayne State University. She is a ServSafe Certified Instructor and Registered Proctor with the National Restaurant Association. She is a member of Michigan Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (MEAFCS) and National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS).
