Joanna Urban is a Community Nutrition Instructor at Michigan State University Extension. She has worked in this capacity since March 2022.
In this role, Joanna helps people improve the quality of their diets, increase their physical activity, and learn safe food handling practices through facilitated and interactive learning experiences. She is an active member of multiple community coalitions and collaboratives with the shared goals of promoting nutrition, physical wellness, and improved food access.
Prior to joining MSU Extension, Joanna dedicated twenty years to teaching, including early childhood, elementary, secondary, and special education. She has also worked within the Michigan court system and enjoys community volunteerism.
Joanna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and Comparative Politics and a minor in Spanish from Central Michigan University. She is a Michigan affiliate of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Science and a certified Go NAPSACC consultant for childcare facilities and providers.
