Mathew Klein was raised on a small family farm in Pewamo, Mich. He is graduated from Michigan State University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management and specialization in Crop and Soil Sciences. Prior to becoming Farm Manager at the Montcalm Research Center in 2016, Klein worked for agribusiness company Wilbur Ellis.

As Farm Manager, Klein oversees research crops throughout the growing season, which includes field preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilizing, spraying, and harvesting. He also maintains buildings and equipment, manages the farm’s budget and works with the Michigan Potato Industry Commission to supervise their Potato Demonstration and Storage Facility, located at the Montcalm Research Center.
