Nonmetallic Mineral

Some potential points to spur discussion:

  • Social capital is an important location factor for establishments in nonmetallic mineral manufacturing. Social capital appears to play a significant role in supporting local manufacturing, presumably through more social networking, social cohesion, and knowledge transfers.
  • Nonmetallic mineral product establishments are associated with areas with higher property taxes, but this association does not significantly influence overall industry employment levels. This is likely due to areas with higher property taxes attracting branch establishments through higher quality public services, including transportation infrastructure and a well-qualified labor-force.
  • Manufacturing industries seem to benefit from agglomeration, that is, locating in areas with higher shares of employment in manufacturing.
