Tuition & Fees

Tuition

MSU assesses tuition and fees each semester on the basis of a student’s level, residency status, and number of credits carried. Tuition is assessed on a per credit-hour basis.

The MSU Board of Trustees will announce tuition for the 2025-2026 academic year in late June.

For reference and planning purposes, these were the graduate student rates for the 2024-2025 academic year (fall 2024, spring 2025, summer 2025). Note that all IFLR courses are three credit-hours.

  • Michigan residents: $893.00/credit-hour x 3 = $2,679/course.
  • Non-Michigan and international residents: $1,729.50/credit-hour x 3 = $5,188.50/course.

The latest tuition rates can always be found directly on the Student Accounts webpage:  https://ctlr.msu.edu/student-accounts/tuition-rates-by-semester

Other Fees

  • A graduate student fee of $37.00/semester for part-time students (4 credits or less/semester) or $75.00/semester for full-time students will be applied.
  • Student-voted fees of $17.00/semester will be applied. Students may request a waiver. Ask your advisor for details at iflr@msu.edu.
  • Our online students are not charged MSU’s recreational and wellness center fee.

Health Insurance Waiver or Exemption for International Students

MSU requires international students to carry health insurance while studying in the US. MSU online students can request an exemption to the health insurance requirement by following the instructions at this link:

https://oiss.isp.msu.edu/health-wellness-and-safety/us-health-care-insurance/

If you are an international student located in the US, you may be eligible to request a waiver (rather than an exemption) of the MSU health insurance requirement. Information for the waiver can also be found at the link listed above.
