Bridging Science and Culture: A Visit from Dr. Miyo Yamane

With colorful traditional chiyogami paper on hand, Dr. Yamane shared scientific insights and also cultural traditions at a recent PSM coffee hour— a perfect end to her visit.

A recent PSM Coffee Hour took a creative twist as Miyo Yamane, Postdoctoral Researcher within the Seki Lab, RIKEN Center Japan, wrapped up her research exchange with host Dr. Addie Thompson by leading an impromptu origami session. With colorful traditional chiyogami paper on hand, Dr. Yamane shared scientific insights and also cultural traditions — a perfect end to her visit.

As part of C-SPIRIT Center for Sustainable Plant Innovation and Resilience Through International Teamwork — a diverse international research team, including a large contingent from PSM, Dr. Yamane, Addie Thompson and colleagues are united by a shared mission: to stabilize global food production and promote sustainable agriculture, with a focus on understanding plant resilience through the natural chemistry of plants and microbes. Dr. Thompson shares her expertise in maize genetics to help investigate the role of ethanol in reducing plant stress.
