CELA Elects New President

Dr. Jun-Hyun Kim, Landscape Architecture program director, has been elected president of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.

The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) has announced the results of their most recent Board election. Among the changes in office is SPDC’s Dr. Jun-Hyun Kim, program director of Landscape Architecture, winning his bid for CELA President. Dr. Kim will take on the role of President-Elect in late March of 2023 and finish the year in that capacity before starting his 2024-2026 term as CELA President.

CELA is the most prominent and longest-standing international organization for academics in landscape architecture. It is composed of nearly all programs of higher learning in landscape architecture in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and East Asia. CELA’s mission is to encourage, support and further education in the field of landscape architecture specifically related to teaching, research, scholarship, and public service.

“It’s a great honor,” Dr. Kim said concerning his recent election as CELA President. “I’m thrilled to continuously represent our program, school, college, and university in my discipline,” he continued.

In addition to a lasting career as an educator, Dr. Kim has nearly two decades of participation in and service to CELA. Since 2006, he has regularly attended CELA conferences and delivered more than 50 presentations. In 2013, Dr. Kim was elected as a CELA Regional Director for Region 3. In that role he served on both the CELA Standing Committee on Communications, Outreach, and Publications, as well as the CELA Standing Committee on Awards and Recognitions.
