What are your responsibilities as the Director of Land Protection and Climate Strategy Lead at The Nature Conservancy?

I lead strategic planning and negotiation of all complex real estate transactions for The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii in Hawaii and at Palmyra Atoll. I also lead The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii's climate strategy initiatives, including focusing on development of forest carbon offset projects and exploring potential markets for policies for Hawaii.

How do you see completing the Graduate Certificate as fitting in with your career and/or career goals?

I have been searching for formal training in forest carbon, and this Certificate opportunity could not have come at a better time in my career. I am seeking to develop one of the first forest carbon projects in the state for The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, and this will provide targeted training in inventory, accounting, and verification methodologies.

What specific knowledge and skills do you expect to strengthen with this program?

The Certificate will help me better understand existing market opportunities and provide formal training in forestry concepts and carbon science.
