Registration for the 2015 Stepping Stones Program is open

Register for the outdoor education program to explore Michigan’s natural resources and State Parks.

The 2015 Stepping Stones Outdoor Education Program registration is underway. It is now time to think about summer and the great outdoors. Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources present this state-wide outdoors education program designed to expose youth with little or no prior outdoor experience to the great outdoors and the State of Michigan parks. The program will provide hands-on experiential learning in a fun and safe park environment. Most importantly, the goal of the program is to develop a new generation of stewards for our natural resources and parks.

The 2015 Stepping Stones Program is a nine-week program that is designed to provide a one-day educational and hands-on experience to youth groups containing children nine years of age and older. The program includes five different outdoor education activities designed to introduce youth to outdoor fun such as: archery, fishing, camping, water studies and nature exploration. Groups that participate in the Stepping Stones Program will have the opportunity to engage in two of the five activities during the course of the day.

This year’s Stepping Stones program is scheduled for June 15-August 7.The program begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. each day.

Locations for this year’s program include:

  • Belle Isle Park
  • Maybury State Park
  • Island Lake Recreation Area
  • Proud Lake Recreation Area
  • Holly Recreation Area
  • Sleepy Hollow State Park
  • Bay City Recreation Area
