Spotted wing Drosophila (SWD) continues to be a top priority of Michigan’s cherry industry. To provide the industry with the most up-to-date SWD information, Michigan State University Extension and the Cherry Marketing Institute hosted the 2019 (SWD) Summit last November. This meeting was in-part supported by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research’s Rapid Outcomes from Agricultural Research and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Specialty Crop Block Grant programs.

Growers, consultants, industry representatives, Extension educators and researchers attended this day-long summit to learn about the accomplishments of the SWD Task Force’s recent grant funded research. This year’s summit featured MSU’s latest in SWD research from new findings of SWD biology and behavior, cherry variety susceptibility, considerations for trapping, and opportunities for integrated pest management.
