NWMHRC EverCrisp Planting on Seven Different Rootstocks

Project goal: To determine if rootstock influences ripening date of the MAIA variety EverCrisp.

Project description: Growers in Michigan are interested in growing the apple variety EverCrisp. EverCrisp is a late ripening variety out of the Midwest Apple Improvement Association’s (MAIA) breeding program. This newer variety is a cross between a Honeycrisp and a Fuji. Despite this apple’s desirable characteristics, growers in the north are concerned about ripening EverCrisp annually. This project will help determine if rootstock will impact harvest date of this later ripening variety. EverCrisp has been planted on the following rootstocks in a replicated trial at the NWMHRC: G11, Bud 10, Nic 29, Bud 9, G41, NAKB-337, and G935.
