Over-The-Row Tart Cherry Harvest

Project goal:  To evaluate the effectiveness of over-the-row harvesters and their impact on tree health and fruit quality.

Project description: This plot of multiple varieties of bush-type tart cherries and Montmorency on MSU dwarfing rootstocks, has served as the primary demonstration site for over-the-row harvesters.  Over the past five years, we have tested four different harvesters in this plot. In addition to using the plot for mechanical testing, we have evaluated the potential of new bush tart cherries, and although not replicated, we have collected data on the MSU rootstocks planted to high density. Lastly, Dr. Perry has evaluated different hedging timings and root pruning.
