Strategic Travel Fund

Funding is available through the Dean of International Studies and Programs (ISP) and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) to partially support international travel of CANR faculty integral to developing strategic partnerships with universities and other institutions of research and or outreach abroad. Such international collaborative efforts (academic programs, research, outreach and or capacity building) must be linked to defined CANR focal areas (e.g. food, energy, environment). Strategic international partnerships ideally should involve faculty from more than one department and/or college at MSU. Support is generally limited to $3,000. The fund may award a larger amount with proper justification.

Applications for funding are accepted anytime throughout the year and must address the following:

  • Brief description of proposed international partner institution and key individuals.
  • Nature of proposed strategic international partnership and anticipated return on investment to CANR/MSU.
  • Relationship of proposed partnership to CANR focal areas.
  • Specific goals of international travel proposed and planned major activities.
  • Brief travel budget* and justification including dates and specific location of travel.

*Note matching funds of at least 20 percent of proposed travel budget are required in order to be eligible for strategic international travel funding.  Documentation of matching funds from Department Chair/School Director is required

Application should be prepared as a single PDF document (items 1-5 above limited to one page) with matching funds documentation attached and submitted to anr.ors.intl@msu.edu

Applicants will be notified of funding decision within 6 weeks of application submission. A one-page report on international activities undertaken and current status of proposed international partnership is required within 90 days after completion of travel.
