Travel to High-Risk Destinations

An approved Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) must be completed and approved for CANR faculty conducting work and traveling to a country with a travel advisory of 3 or 4, as categorized by the  U.S. Department of State (DOS). The approved MOU is submitted with the Export Control application.

The MOU must include a description of the project or work, specific region(s) or country(s) affected, and outlines plans to mitigate the safety and security risk. Projects including undergraduate or graduate students must include a description of their role and be signed by the Dean of the Graduate School.

Steps:

  • Check the DOS website and review travel advisory levels for country(ies) included in the proposal. Countries with level 3 or 4 risk must include a completed MOU.    
  • Contact anr.ors.intl@msu.edu and work with Office of Research Support to complete the MOU template and submit the MOU for signatures.
