Subject Matter Expert, Food Laws and Regulations in Latin America

Fernando Brito, MSc, MBA, is Global Lead, Regulatory – Consumer Care & Medical Nutrition at Nestlé Health Science. Fernando has over 15 years of experience in Regulatory Affairs, having worked for companies such as Nestlé, Novartis, Kraft Food, and Nabisco. Fernando started his regulatory career in Brazil but soon gained exposure to advocacy and regulatory frameworks in Latin America, Europe, the U.S. and Codex Alimentarius. Throughout his years of experience Fernando has worked closely with government authorities, industry associations, non-governmental organizations, scientific institutes and medical societies, to influence and advocate for the evolution of local and international food regulatory frameworks.

Fernando’s regulatory expertise includes food additives, function/health claims, nutrition profiling, food for special dietary uses, medical foods/FSMP, products for weight management, dietary supplements, and infant formulas.

Fernando is a chemical engineer, holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology, an MBA from Rutgers University, and a RAPS certification in Medical Devices and Drugs regulations.
