The possibility of using a controlled emulsion detector as an active target in the CHANS spectrometer to study near-threshold generation of charmed particles in hadron reactions is discussed. The efficiency of detecting decays of charmed particles in the target is similar to 70%, and the signal-to-background ratio is similar to 5. At a proton beam intensity of 1.10(7)/(cm(2) . accelerator pulse), the detectable cross section of charmed particles generation after a 1.5-month exposure under the beam from the IHEP accelerator is similar to 0.03 mu b/N.
