Dr. Michelle Larkins (CSUS Ph.D, 2017) has accepted a position as Director of the Center for a Sustainable Society at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Pacific University is a small liberal arts school. The Center for a Sustainable Society provides students an opportunity to experience the university's commitment to sustainability and work within a collaborative framework to cultivate an engaged community dedicated to global awareness and building a healthier future.  The center promotes opportunities for research, education and relevant work experiences for students to work on projects related to environmental challenges, sustainable business practices,  technological solutions, and socially just causes.

By using the University and the local area as a living laboratory, the center creates opportunities to raise awareness of the need for a sustainable future and works on reducing the region's environmental footprint. The center works with faculty to promote inclusion of sustainability topics throughout the curriculum, and staff to increase the use of sustainable practices on the university's campuses.  It is also an outreach hub for the University to work with  local governmental, business and nonprofit partners to make the University, Forest Grove and Washington County a model for sustainable culture.
Michelle will work closely with the University Sustainability Committee, student environmental organizations, faculty, staff, and off-campus partners — such as METRO, Clean Water Services, businesses, nonprofits and local cities — to make the day-to-day operations of the university and the region more sustainable.

Congratulations Michelle!
