Where To Begin?

Is your farm covered under the FSMA Produce Safety Rule?

We offer a wide variety of resources when it comes to produce safety, but it can be daunting trying to figure out what your farm needs. A good start is determining whether or not your farm must comply with the requirements of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule. If you're unsure whether or not the rule applies to your operation, this questionnaire may help.

Have you attended a PSA Grower Training?

If your farm is covered under FSMA, at least one person from your farm must attend a Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training Course. This day-long course is a standardized curriculum that covers both Good Agricultural Practices and the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements. MSU Extension offers this course at no cost to growers.

Would you benefit from an On-Farm Readiness Review?

An On-Farm Readiness Review (OFRR) is a free, voluntary, and completely confidential service offered by the Michigan Produce Safety Team. An OFRR allows growers to walk through their operation with a small team of food-safety experts and discuss practical and cost-effective ways to meet the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements.

Have you connected with your local Produce Safety Technician?

Michigan is the only state with a Produce Safety Technician program dedicated to providing on-farm technical education for produce farmers. Technicians are a free, voluntary, and confidential resource. They have a unique role in delivering direct produce safety technical assistance through Risk Assessments, site visits, resource development, and more.
