Crops

There is significant overlap with matters covered under the crop insurance heading. Many of the non-insurance matters that have been addressed under this theme pertain to cropping production systems, i.e., addressing how different practices and/or different crops fit together.

  • How have tillage systems evolved over time and what are the implications for the environment?
  • Thinking through rotation production benefits and fertility in corn-soybean production?
  • How has differential productivity growth across crops affected land use and choice of crops grown in different regions?
  • How have seed technologies affected pesticide usage?
  • In what ways have crop quality changed as a result of new cropping technologies?

Going forward, more emphasis may be placed on the economics of orchard and perennial crops.
