MSU Extension offers FREE nutrition education to those that qualify. Topics covered in classes include label reading, food safety, healthy snacks, basic nutrition and shopping smartly. Our nutrition instructors teach in a variety of settings with individuals across the lifespan, from preschoolers to older adults

Agencies and Organizations can use the Agency “Client Referral” Form in referring clients to MSU Extension nutrition education classes. Form is confidential and should be faxed or emailed.

Eat Healthy, Be Active

Please come join us!

Eat Healthy, Be Active is a nutrition program where participants learn the skills needed to make healthy eating and regular physical activity be a part of their lifestyle. This program consists of six fun interactive lessons, each lasting approximately one to two hours. Eat Healthy, Be Active promotes healthy lifestyles and can help reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease.

Graduates will receive:

  • Lessons and materials at no cost for participants
  • Stretch bands for physical activity
  • A Certificate of Completion from MSU Extension
  • Eating Right is Basic Recipe Set

SNAP-Ed / Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education

Educational programs and materials for all ages about maintaining a healthy life style. Information about the 2005 Dietary Guidelines and Food Guide Pyramid.

The Family Nutrition Program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education) provides nutrition education to anyone who is income eligible for or receiving food assistance benefits. MSU Extension collaborates with the Department of Human Services and other agencies to coordinate efforts and refer families to local community services that best meet the families' needs. Project FRESH/Senior Project FRESH 

The Project FRESH program provides participants with nutrition education and encourages them to improve their dietary choices by providing them with coupons to buy Michigan grown fresh fruits and vegetables at local farmers’ markets. The program also increases the demand for Michigan grown produce and boosts the income of farmers who sell fruits and vegetables at participating markets. Available to WIC participants June to September.

Senior Project FRESH is a similar program in partnership with the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging and the local Commission on Aging aimed at helping to meet the nutritional needs of those county residents over the age of 60 with an income of less than 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
