The Department of Wood and Forest Sciences is also responsible for the integrated multi-faculty bachelor's degree in natural and managed environments. It has 33 full-time professors and lecturers, four research chairs with partnerships, two teaching leadership chairs, two research consortiums, two research centers and over 500 undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborations with the Departments of Geography and Geomatics, as well as with other faculties at Université Laval, offer interesting opportunities for multidisciplinary research.

Job Description

In accordance with its development plan, the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences is seeking a professor in environmental engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in French at all levels, support the various departmental programs, and develop a research program in the targeted areas. More specifically, teaching and research activities will focus on the following areas, all of which are related to the environmental assessment of wood products:
1. Eco-design of bio-based building materials and systems.
2. Life-cycle analysis of buildings, systems and materials.
3. Development of life cycle analysis methodologies, including aspects related to biogenic carbon.
4. Carbon accounting of the forest value chain.
5. Analysis of material flows in the forest-wood-construction sector.
6. Integrating the social and economic dimensions of life-cycle analysis.

Responsibilities include:

1. Teaching environmental engineering in French at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
2. The development of pedagogical and didactic material.
3. Develop a life-cycle analysis course and contribute to teaching in wood engineering.
4. Obtaining research funding from granting agencies and external partners to support their research.
5. Conducting research and supervising graduate students on topics related to the above fields.
6. Participating in departmental, faculty, university, and multi-stakeholder (private and public sector) committees.
7. Collaborate with one or more existing research groups at Université Laval, such as the NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Eco-responsible Wood Construction, the Renewable Materials Research Centre, the Composite Wood Panel Research Consortium and the Centre for Forest Research.

Selection Criteria
1. Possess a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, wood engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or in a related discipline and a doctoral degree from a recognized university or be in the process of obtaining one.
2. Possess specific skills in the first three areas listed and in at least one of the other three areas.
3. Demonstrate skills in university-based pedagogy and knowledge mobilization.
4. Demonstrate the ability to obtain funding for their research from public or private granting agencies.
5. Present a vision for the position in terms of academic pedagogy and research and propose concrete actions to achieve it.
6. Be a member of a Canadian engineering association recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) or demonstrate eligibility to become a member within one year.
