Undergraduate Student Spotlight

Emily Caretti

Name: Emily Caretti

Hometown: Warren, MI

Why Forestry: Forestry is such an awesome field! Not only do we get to spend most of our days running around in the woods, we also make huge contributions to society through wood products, sustainability, and climate change mitigation. Foresters get paid to have fun changing the world.

Career Goal: My goal is to work in the timber industry, in either the public or private sector, planning timber sales and writing sale contracts. Later in life, I would love to be a consulting forester and help small landowners manage their forests.

Activities: I am an active member of the MSU Forestry Club. When I'm not at school, I enjoy hiking, hunting, and shooting competitive archery.

Forestry Advice: As an undergrad, take jobs you never expected to take in places you never expected to go. I personally have been paid to travel and work in some incredible places, and I originally thought I wanted to stay in Michigan. Don't be afraid to branch out; it's worth it!

Extra Comment: Don't wait a year to become a member of the Forestry Club like I did! You will meet your best friends and make so many memories, and that's what college is all about.
