This temporary contracted position will plan and conduct conservation education activities in line with the vision, mission and objectives of the Boone and Crockett Club and the Club’s Conservation Education Program. The Boone and Crockett Club is North America’s oldest wildlife conservation organization and maintains and operates a 6,000+ acre ranch in north-central Montana near the small community of Dupuyer. The Club’s place-based conservation education program is currently seeking hard-working, friendly, and energetic individuals to join their seasonal summer staff team. Duties, responsibilities, and day to day functions vary weekly which provides great diversity to the work schedule. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

The conservation intern is responsible for the following programmatic activities, which are listed in order of priority:

  • Planning, supervising, hosting, and conducting conservation education programs for public and private school students, teachers, summer camp participants and other guests either on site or virtually.
  • Ensure conservation education programs and material are focused primarily on ecology of the Rocky Mountain Front, ethical fair chase hunting, natural resource conservation, and shared, sustainable, and ethical management and use of Montana’s wildlife and their habitats with specific focus on the coexistence of livestock and wildlife on the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (TRMR).
  • Development and preparation of all educational and programmatic materials to be used with guest audiences featuring resources from across private, state, federal and other public lands.
  • Maintaining educational materials, collections, displays, and equipment and any biological specimens or Boone and Crockett RWCC property including vehicles, firearms, and social media platforms.
  • Assistance with development of Boone and Crockett Trail Camera Curriculum modules including, collecting, and deploying trail cameras, analyzing, organizing, editing and storing related content and data.
  • Basic janitorial, maintenance and landscaping duties when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment

Work will be conducted at the Elmer E. Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center on the Boone and Crockett Club's Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (TRMR) west of Dupuyer, Montana.

  • This position is supervised by the Director of Conservation Programs.
  • This contract will cover the time period from mid-May thru early-August for scheduled groups. During the time period in which the MOHAB scout camp is operating this position will be hired by the MT Council BSA, as such no compensation will be given by the Boone and Crockett Club during those pay periods.
  • RWCC Conservation Intern must be able to work a flexible schedule, occasionally setting his/her own schedule and possibly working extended, irregular hours.
  • The conservation intern must be willing and responsible to conduct the programs agreed to per current schedule. This schedule may change due to unforeseen specific needs and weather conditions. Contact Director of Conservation programs for most up to date schedule.    
  • Compensation is competitive and DOE. WFA and SWR training can be provided free of charge.  
  • The Boone and Crockett Club will cover worker's compensation insurance.
  • As a temporary contracted position, no benefits are included. 
  • Housing will be provided during time of employment as well as meals during educational events.
  • Payment will be made biweekly from the Boone and Crockett Club in Missoula, MT, to coincide with the Club’s regular payment periods for staff and contract employees.
