Professor David Tschirley was recently reappointed to a 3-year term as co-director, with professor Eric Crawford, of MSU’s Food Security Group in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE).  Serving also as director of the new Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI), Dr. Tschirley relishes the opportunity to work with colleagues within FSG and partners across many institutions in the United States, Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote the building of sustainable local capacity for high quality research that improves people’s lives through better policy.  “The deep and rapid transformations taking place in developing country agrifood systems present daunting challenges and exciting opportunities to improve the wellbeing of hundreds of millions of people”, said Dr. Tschirley.  “Strong applied research, conceived on the basis of local needs and fed by global, regional, and local insights, has a huge role to play in rising to this challenge.  I’m really excited to be able to continue helping lead MSU’s efforts, with its many global partners, in this area.”

Dr. Crawford begins his 19th year as co-director of FSG.  "Dave has brought tremendous energy and new ideas during his first 3-year term as co-director," said Dr. Crawford. "Our group is fortunate that he will continue for a second 3-year term."

In announcing Professor Tschirley's reappointment, Titus Awokuse, Professor and Chairperson of AFRE said, "I have enjoyed working with Dr. Tschirley the past three years and appreciate his passion and commitment to leading and promoting AFRE/MSU’s international development activities in Africa and around the world. I’m particularly grateful to David for his effective leadership in ensuring the success of MSU’s efforts to secure the $11 million USAID grant towards the new Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI)."
