IT Device & Computer Management FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions regarding how to handle acquiring, storing, reassigning, and removing MSU/ANR owned devices.

  1. How do I begin the process of purchasing a new computer or other device?

Submit the New Computer Purchasing Form. Upon receipt of this form, ANR IT will reach out to you to discuss the best device options for your needs and help you order the device.

  2. I have received my new device. How do I get it set up?

Do NOT set up or use your new workstation on your own. Contact ANR IT at ANRIT.Support@msu.edu and notify us that you have a device that needs to be set up and we will set up a time to work with you. This step is necessary to ensure the device meets baseline security standards and compliance required by MSU.

  3. I have a device previously used by an employee and want to give it to a different employee to use. What should I do?

Contact ANR IT at ANRIT.Support@msu.edu and notify us that of the new employee and/or location the device will be assigned to. It is important that we know who and where the device is being used at so we can ensure the device security is maintained and we can meet the new employee/location's assistance needs.

  4. I have a device previously used by an employee and would like to keep it in case I need it for someone or something else in the future. What do I need to do?

Contact ANR IT at ANRIT.Support@msu.edu and notify us that the original employee is no longer associated with the device as well as who is currently in possession of the device, where it will be stored, and any other relevant information about the device.

  5. I have a device that is out of warranty or otherwise no longer needed. What should I do with it?

Contact ANR IT at ANRIT.Support@msu.edu and notify us that you have a device you no longer need. We will work with you to return the device to ANR IT so we can prepare the device to be retired and sent to surplus. Do not attempt this on your own as there are many aspects that need to be updated/removed during this process, some of which you may not have access to.
