Michigan 4-H seeking session proposals for 2019 4-H Exploration Day sessions
Share your skill, hobby or knowledge with Michigan 4-H youth by leading a session at the 2019 4-H Exploration Days.
Do you have a skill, hobby or knowledge you’d like to share with youth? Michigan 4-H Exploration Days is currently seeking volunteers for 2019 4-H Exploration Days sessions. This fun MSU pre-college program, to be held June 19-21, engages more than 2,000 youth ages 11-19 in three days of fun and learning on the campus of MSU. In addition to a number of fun recreational experiences, youth take part in approximately 10 hours of instructional time that allows them to explore their passions and expand their skills in countless areas. You can help to make this experience better by sharing your special talent, ability or experience as a session instructor!
4-H Exploration Day session instructors are needed to teach both full and half time sessions (10 or 5 hours of instructional time, respectively). Half-time sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 19 from 1:30-4 p.m. and Thursday, June 20, from 8:30 - 11 a.m., or on Thursday, June 20 from 1:30-4 p.m. and Friday, June 21 from 8:30-11 a.m. Full length sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 19 from 1:45-3:45 p.m., Thursday, June 20 from 8:45-11:15 a.m. and 1:15-3:15 p.m., and Friday, June 21 from 8:15-10:45 a.m.
Session topics vary widely – all you need is something interactive and hands-on for youth to explore! Teach a craft, share a career path, or let youth experience your favorite hobby or sport. Youth enjoy trying their hand at recreational activities like singing and dancing, while others enjoy building their skills in topics that range from cat care to car maintenance. Whatever you enjoy, there is a likely a group of youth who will enjoy it too – submit your proposal by December 14 to give your time and share your experience!
Session proposals will be reviewed by a committee to determine feasibility in 2019. If accommodations cannot be made for 2019, the committee will consider the session proposal again for 2020. Volunteers will be notified by January 11, if their proposal has been selected for the 2019 event. All session instructors will be required to successfully complete the MSU Extension Volunteer Selection Process.
