Over 65 Detroit Public School students from The Greening of Detroit Green Corps Summer Youth Program visited Michigan State University campus last week. The Green Corps is a youth workforce development program providing young people ages 14–18 an opportunity to earn a paycheck, explore environmental careers, and learn about ways to maintain and expand green spaces. FCCP team members, Em Esch and new interim director Sandra Lupien, facilitated a session highlighting media developed by the Forest + Climate Visualization Partnership. Students used virtual reality (VR) technology to experience different tree species, forest types, and management scenarios. The session included a discussion on the utility of VR technology, which provides an immersive experience for those who cannot easily access forests.
