Nahian is a Ph.D. student and a Graduate Research Assistant. He is interested in development, food systems, and agricultural value chains. Prior to joining AFRE as a graduate student, he worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) for three years. Before that, he worked at Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) in Bangladesh for about a year. Nahian comes with extensive field research experience in conducting and analyzing household and enterprise surveys in Bangladesh. He worked in a process evaluation study of the largest public food distribution system, and he was involved in studying the impact of COVID-19 on multiple food value chains, social protection programs, and food security situation of low-income people. The project he is currently working on with Dr. Maredia and Dr. Crawford aims to provide learning and analytical support to the U.S. government's Feed the Future activities in Kenya and East Africa (KEA) region implemented under the auspices of USAID country and regional offices.
Born and raised in Bangladesh, Nahian is an economics research enthusiast and an aspiring writer. He writes blogs and newspaper articles on contemporary economic issues.
