Dr. Takele Merid Afessa is an assistant Professor of Social Anthropology and a researcher at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies of Addis Ababa University. He graduated from Addis Ababa University with BA Degree, History in 2004. After graduation he worked as a researcher of Heritage Expert for the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ethiopia. He also graduated with Master of Art in Indigenous Cultural Studies from Addis Ababa University in 2007. Then, in June 2016, he graduated in Social Anthropology with PhD Degree. He was employed by the Institute of Ethiopian Studies of Addis Ababa University in 2008 worked for the last 8 years as a researcher. Regarding Academic Responsibilities, to date he has supervised two masters projects and two BA theses. Currently he is involved in the supervision of three students (two MA and BA Degrees). He also examined three MA theses in 2013 and 2012. With regard to course teaching, he teaches a course on Political Anthropology, Addis Ababa University. He currently involved in research projects related to gender dimensions of development, environment and livelihood changes. He has published a number of research works related to the above themes. His research priorities are focused on anthropological approaches to livelihood changes, climate and environment changes, development and environment, domestic energy sources related research themes.
