Summary

I am broadly interested in how organisms adapt to different environments and whether this type of adaptation may lead to the formation of new species. My research focuses primarily on the genetic mechanisms underlying desiccation resistance in desert fruit flies. I am investigating the evolution of
cuticular hydrocarbons as these compounds play roles in desiccation resistance while also act as pheromones in insect communication (i.e. dual traits). Under the supervision of Dr. Henry Chung, we are doing experiments to identify the genes underlying desiccation resistance in these flies and to
understand the genetic mechanisms that drive the evolution of these genes.
