  • Height: 40’

  • Site characteristics: Variety of soil types.
  • Zone: 4b - 7b
  • Wet/dry: Favors moist, well-drained sites, tolerates intermittent drought.
  • pH: 5.0 - 8.2
  • Native range: Eastern Asia
  • Other: Does not do well in restricted root zone areas; high drought tolerance. Ornamental characteristics
  • Shape: Vase-shaped, round, depending on cultivar, open with massive branches. Other: Corky, furrowed bark.
  • Cultivars: ‘Macho’ - vigorous male, thick leathery leaves, seedless; ‘Eye stopper’ - bright yellow fall color, seedless; ‘His majesty’ - seedless, broadly vase-shaped.
  • Additional: Transplant in spring, plant only males. Pests: Relatively pest-free.
