Creating a Website

We offer website creation through dotCMS, an enterprise-level content management system. You can get started with dotCMS by emailing webadmin@anr.msu.edu. Here are some things to consider when creating your website:

  • Most website visitors will be using a mobile device, not a desktop computer or a laptop. Add information to your web pages in priority order, the way you want to see it displayed on a mobile device.
  • You may want to make an outline of your website navigation before creating pages. However, don't assume mobile visitors will see your navigation bar.
  • Most website visitors click on external search results, and visitors will typically not arrive on the homepage. Use calls to action and tagging to plan for visitors who arrive on internal article and web pages.
  • Develop a content strategy in order to create web pages that can be used as a search result, in an email, or on social media. Remove web pages that get very little traffic or do not effectively target your audiences.
