Summary of Job Duties:
This position is expected to liaise with public and private forest organizations to provide Arkansas with a research-based program that meets the needs of the state. An applied research program will be developed to complement the Extension program. Grant writing and publication on various media outlets including technically refereed journals are expected. This position is expected to provide training, collaboration and support to county extension agents and programs.
This position will report to the Director of the Forest Resources Center (Dean, College of Agriculture and Forestry at University of Arkansas at Monticello) and will be expected to partner with research and teaching faculty at the College. When needed, the successful candidate will provide technical assistance to the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Forest Manager on the management and research establishment on Division property. Demonstration projects to support educational programs will be expected on university, private, and public properties.
This position is 70% Extension and 30% Research and is expected to conduct a statewide program of excellence in hardwood and pine management.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in a natural resources-related field, with at least one degree in forestry or forest management.
Preferred Qualifications
Extension/outreach experience and expertise in ecology, silviculture, forest health, spatial analysis, wildlife habitat management, and/or forest economics is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate to a wide audience in social media, publications, and presentations and the capability to create a research program that addresses issues in forest management. Ability and desire to collaborate with faculty from the Cooperative Extension Service, Agriculture Experiment Station, and College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is essential. Candidates should desire developing educational programs for forest landowners, natural resources professionals, county Extension Agents, and 4-H youth. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and have a valid driver’s license. Must meet the requirements to be a registered forester in Arkansas before or after employment.
