Michigan State University Entomologist Dave Smitley was recently a guest on the Oregon State University Extension Service podcast “PolliNation”, hosted by Andony Melathopoulos.

On the podcast, which seeks to tell the stories of researchers, land managers and concerned citizens who are making strides to improve the health of pollinators, Smitley gave practical tips and discussed national initiatives to protect pollinators in urban landscapes. He also commented on how he began to research the safety of plants at garden centers for pollinators, how pollinator health is different in horticultural industries than in agricultural industries, what the modern threats to bees are, and other topics.

“We have a lot of education to do for protecting pollinators,” Smitley said.
